Peak: Who we are, and why we’re serious about your wellbeing

Peak's at-home hormone testing, virtual consultations and optimization treatments have helped thousands of men rediscover their best selves.

Since opening our virtual doors in March 2020, Peak has helped countless thousands of men rediscover what they didn’t even know was missing: The elements that make them the best versions of themselves. Hearing so many of you tell us that Peak has helped you regain your focus and drive, feel stronger and energized, and live a better life has been our measure for success, and one that we take great pride in.

Why have so many men turned to Peak? There are a number of reasons, but we believe it boils down to one thing: As much as we enjoy poking some fun here and on our social platforms (Facebook, InstagramTwitter and YouTube), we are a medical practice that takes you and your health very seriously at all times.

As Peak joins you on your journey of self-rediscovery, it’s important to tell you more about the company. We are committed to 100 percent transparency with you, especially since our primary services – hormone testing, consultation and optimization – are provided to you in the comfort of your home. You should know us, so let’s introduce you to how we operate, step-by-step. And if you still have questions before, during or after reading this, feel free to contact us at support@getpeaktoday.com.

1. It starts with ordering and registering your hormone lab panel.

You’ll order and register your hormone lab panel on Peak’s website. Registering is very important; it not only incorporates you into Peak’s 24/7 patient platform, but it also allows us to accurately follow the progress of your lab test once you’ve collected your sample and mailed it to the lab.

Labs affiliated with Peak are accredited by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and, where applicable, by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). CLIA are composed of a set of federal standards overseen by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In regulating laboratory testing, CLIA requirements mandate that clinical labs obtain certification from the CMS before they can accept human samples for diagnostic testing. CAP operates in a similar manner, though their laboratory standards not only meet, but often exceed CLIA requirements. These criteria ensure that our labs produce the highest quality test results.

With Peak's at-home hormone testing kit, you can easily collect a sample and send to our CLIA/CAP accredited labs. The labs produce your results within five business days of receiving your sample.

Physicians follow a protocol that uses guidance from the American Urological Association (AUA), the preeminent professional association for the advancement of urologic patient care through education and research. The AUA supplies health providers with complete guidance and standards to guarantee testing accuracy and refine their diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of those who suffer from clinically significant hormone deficiencies.

Following a physician’s recommendation to prescribe a controlled substance like testosterone, Peak follows up with confirmatory testing. This is required to verify the doctor’s analysis of a patient. Once testing has confirmed the diagnosis, the patient will be prescribed treatment as outlined by the doctor. This is a mandatory requirement, and there are no exceptions to this rule.

It must also be noted that every interaction through Peak’s telehealth services – from kit registration to test results to doctor’s consultations to treatment – is strictly confidential. Your information is further protected by strict security practices implemented inside our platform. For further information regarding this, please refer to Peak’s Privacy Policy.

2. You’ll consult only with certified physicians.

Peak will notify you once the lab has tested your sample and produced your results (which can take approximately five business days upon receiving the sample). From your Peak platform account, you will review your results, then schedule a virtual consultation with a physician. Since we’re a telehealth service, you must have Internet capability in order to have a face-to-face consultation with one of our doctors. Additionally, you must reside within a state where Peak’s services are available. A list of states we service can be found on our website.

Peak’s physicians specialize in endocrinology, urology, internal medicine and hormone optimization. All of them undergo an extensive background check, license verification and thorough training before they practice medicine on our platform. They comply with all US medical laws and they’re licensed in your respective state to prescribe medication and take care of you via our remote services.

Furthermore, all doctors affiliated with Peak are deeply experienced in hormone treatment. This means that the physician you’re seeing actively participates in assessment and training that go beyond the requirements of their specialized practice. Our doctors also follow all protocols as determined and governed by Peak’s Medical Advisory Board of Directors.

When you do a virtual consultation with one of Peak's board certified physicians, you can rest assured that you're talking with someone who specializes in hormone treatment and optimization.

3. A virtual consultation with your physician will run approximately 30 minutes.

Many in-person doctor’s visits are an all-day affair, what with travel back and forth to the doctor’s office, prolonged delays in the waiting room and, in more cases than not, a quick, 10- to 15-minute chat with the physician. Peak works very closely with our physicians’ schedules – and yours – so that the doctor can spend as much time as possible to review your test results and properly assess how you feel.

We recognize that for you to receive the best possible treatment, our doctors need time to understand what’s happening in your life and how it may be affecting your hormones. You also deserve that time to fully understand what the doctor is reviewing with you, and be able to ask the questions that are most pertinent for your care. A 30-minute consultation should provide ample time for both parties to ask and answer questions, discuss treatment options, and identify the physical and mental benefits (or potential detriments) of each treatment. To learn more about what makes for a good first consultation with your doctor, check out our interview with physician Danielle McDevitt.

4. What happens if your doctor recommends testosterone treatment?

Let’s emphasize one very important point: If you’re looking for testosterone treatment simply to help you bulk up or “get swole,” then Peak’s services are not for you. We provide testosterone and other medications only to men whose hormones have been tested, re-tested and diagnosed by our physicians who determine you are hypogonadal.

There is no “one-size-fits-all” prescription treatment. What’s prescribed for you is for you alone, customized to address your specific clinical needs. We also don’t just ship out testosterone as soon as you’ve had your initial consultation. If the doctor determines that you are clinically hypogonadal and recommends testosterone optimization, Peak will conduct three different approval processes before approving shipment of any medication.

First, we re-review all doctor-patient consult notes to ensure that all of our protocols are being followed. Next, as we stated earlier, confirmatory testing must be conducted. Therefore, Peak sends a second test kit to your home. Like the initial test kit, you will collect a sample and send to our labs. Once test results become available, they will be reviewed by your doctor and Peak. If the secondary results confirm the earlier diagnosis and recommended therapy, the doctor documents and issues a valid, current, electronic prescription for the medication.

Upon verifying that you can purchase an active subscription for your recommended treatment, Peak collects all pertinent demographic information from you. This includes authenticating your social security number and state of residency, corroborating that we are legally able to provide and ship medication in that state, and confirming that you are not receiving prescribed testosterone from another provider. Once all of these criteria are satisfied, you may complete the purchase of your medication.

Peak reviews all physician's consultation notes and requires confirmatory testing before you begin any treatment. These safeguards are in place to ensure that you are receiving the best possible treatment. Trust us, the wait is worth it.

To reiterate, all of these safeguards are in place so that Peak remains compliant with all federal and state laws. Testosterone is a controlled substance and must therefore be subjected to multiple checks and balances before you can begin receiving shipments.

Prescribed medications and supplements through Peak are provided and shipped by our partner pharmacies, all of which are LegitScript-certified and accredited with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). For full transparency, LegitScript is an internet and payments compliance company that provides higher-risk industries with merchant, platform and brand monitoring and certification. The NABP is a nonprofit, independent organization that develops, applies and enforces uniform standards to protect the public health.

5. Peak’s processes and protocols continue long after you start receiving your medication.

Once prescriptions are approved and your first order has shipped, Peak works behind the scenes to ensure that you receive monthly refills of your prescription on time. Since you are taking a controlled substance, it is imperative that you are able to take it both when and as prescribed.

Your doctor’s electronic prescription must continue to be active and list the amount of refills that remain. So long as your membership with Peak is active and in good standing, plus the required minimum of days since your last treatment was filled is met, monthly refills will be shipped to your home.

Peak will notify you whenever an order has shipped and provide an email link for tracking purposes. Your orders are sent in discreet packaging via free, two-day shipping. Note that orders are shipped only during weekdays, and if an order is placed after 3 p.m., it will be shipped out the following business day.

Hormone retesting after 90, 180 and 360 days is mandatory, as are follow-up consultations with your Peak physician. Failure to comply with either requirement can result in shipment delays of your medication. Peak will notify you well in advance when it is nearly time for you to retest and schedule your follow-ups. Should there be any questions or concerns with these procedures, please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@getpeaktoday.com
